The brief
TedFest is exactly what it sounds like: a festival built entirely around Father Ted, out on the Aran Islands. The crowd go all in on the joke — fancy dress, lookalike contests, the lot — and the film needed to capture that energy, not tone it down.
The shoot
It started with a random email, and I’ve been back three times since — hopefully more to come. Peter, Eugene, Clare and the rest of the team are a genuinely lovely bunch, and that goes a long way when the job itself is hard going.
It's four days of filming on the Aran Islands, often in bad weather, and it's a constant balancing act between doing the work properly and letting yourself enjoy the festival while it's happening around you. Documentary coverage, following whatever's in front of the camera rather than a shot list. Hard going or not, it's one of the highlights of my year.
